Pet Gates are a great item to help keep our little, sometimes big, friends out of areas that they shouldn’t be getting in to. They’re a ready solution to keep the kids safe and dogs away from things easily broken. A Pet Gate can easily block a living room door or keep them out of the kitchen when you’re cooking. If a gate is designed to be a pet gate, it probably does not have the proper features built in to be used around a child. Many gates for children are certified by the JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association). They have stringent guidelines for producing gates for use around children, whereas pet gates do not. Features including pinch points, bar spacing, locks, directional swing, materials and installation guidelines may not be “kid proof”.

Conversely, using a gate made for use around children as a pet gate isn’t a problem providing it has the strength and characteristics necessary to protect your pet.  So you should keep this in mind when you select the gate.
